My background

I grew up in Portishead and lived there until 2005 when my husband and I decided to emigrate to Australia with our two children – quite the adventure! We lived there for nine years before returning to the UK in 2014, settling in Burnham on Sea where we've been ever since.

Starting as a YTS trainee in 1986, I worked my way up to become the manager of First Choice Portishead, which was a brilliant experience. Living and working in Australia gave me incredible first-hand knowledge that you just can't get from a brochure, and it's something I still draw on when helping clients plan their trips.

Where I've been

I've been fortunate enough to travel extensively!

Australia (obviously!), Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Antigua, Egypt, Mauritius, Maldives, Singapore, Borneo, Thailand, Bali, Vanuatu, Fiji, New Zealand, Florida, Las Vegas, New York, Bahamas, Abu Dhabi, Iceland, the Gambia, Morocco, Malta, Sardinia, Corsica, Madeira, Cyprus, and throughout Greece including Corfu, Kefalonia, Crete, Mykonos, and Santorini.

I've explored Spain's mainland, the Balearics and Canary Islands, plus Turkey, Italy, France, Monaco, Portugal, and Hong Kong, and I've sailed Caribbean cruises visiting countless islands.

I've travelled so extensively I may have missed a few off my list!

My favourite type of holiday

A Caribbean cruise takes some beating for me – it's hard to pick just one island because they're all so different and special in their own way. I love that you get to experience multiple destinations in one trip, waking up somewhere new each day while your floating hotel takes care of everything.

My favourite places

  • The Caribbean is top of my list – and honestly, I can't choose just one island because each one has its own personality and charm. That's why a Caribbean cruise is my go-to recommendation – you get to sample so many different destinations in one incredible trip.

  • Egypt offers such amazing hotels at reasonable prices. I loved experiencing Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, and next time I'm determined to see the Pyramids.

  • Australia will always hold a special place in my heart because I lived there for nine years. It truly has something for everyone – the stunning beaches of Queensland, the incredible sights of Sydney, and the breathtaking scenery of the outback.

My top three hotels

  • TUI Blue Sarigerme, Turkey – This superb hotel cannot do enough for you, the staff are amazing, and the food is absolutely out of this world. It's my go-to for a fly and flop holiday when I need to recharge my batteries.

  • Riu Palace Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – I love a Riu hotel because they all follow a similar high standard. Lots of choice with restaurants and pools, right on the beach, and it can be as lively or as low-key as you wish.

  • Shangri-La Le Touessrok, Mauritius – It's been a while since I've been here, but I always said I'd return one day and I absolutely will. It's pure luxury on a beautiful, friendly island that's worth every penny.

Where I want to go next

As long as I'm breathing, I'll be looking for the next destination on my bucket list! Safari is calling my name, along with India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

My priorities when booking a holiday for a client

It's all about asking the right questions to ensure I'm getting the very best holiday that suits each client's individual needs. No two people are the same, so I take time to really understand what matters to you.

What I can't travel without

Even though I'm a seasoned traveller, I still overpack! So I absolutely cannot travel without my hand-held travel weighing scales. I don't want any nasty overweight surprises or unexpected costs at check-in – learned that lesson the hard way!

My best piece of travel advice

Always, always, always take out travel insurance! Being in the travel industry, you get to hear a few horror stories, and trust me, it's not worth the risk.

When I'm not working...

I love having friends over for a catch-up meal or BBQ – nothing makes me happier. I have a big black Labradoodle called Doug who takes up quite a bit of my time (and my heart!), and my husband and I have a caravan for long weekend getaways exploring the countryside and finding lovely pubs. I also geocache, which takes you to some really lovely places off the beaten track. And here's a fun fact – despite living in Australia for over nine years, I'm absolutely terrified of spiders!
