There’s something about Jamaica that just stays with you. We first visited Ocho Rios a few years ago, and when it came to choosing our most recent family holiday, there was no hesitation - we were heading back...

This time, we explored a different side of the island, staying in Montego Bay at the RIU Reggae for two unforgettable weeks with my 18-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, and my 20-year-old son and his girlfriend.

From the moment we landed, it felt like coming home.

Flying with TUI on the Dreamliner, everything ran smoothly - on-time flights, comfy seats and plenty of in-flight entertainment. The best part? A short 20-minute transfer from the airport, meaning we could swap jet lag for cocktails in record time.

And what a place to arrive at. RIU Reggae ticked every box for our group - adults-only, beachfront, and packed with energy.

And the entertainment team were undoubtedly the best we’ve ever experienced. They made an effort to get to know everyone, remembered names and truly felt like friends by the end of the trip. Whether it was a silent disco, a beach party or a neon night, there was something happening every evening, and the atmosphere was just incredible.

Of course, if you wanted to take it slow, there was plenty of space to unwind - beachfront sun loungers, a swim-up bar and a Caribbean breeze that made relaxation effortless.

Flavours of Jamaica

Food in Jamaica is something else, and we made the most of it. We dined at speciality restaurants most evenings, enjoying everything from Asian flavours and Italian classics to sizzling steaks, but the standout of the trip was the Jerk Chicken Shack on the beach.

Every day, just before noon, the smell of spiced, smoky jerk chicken would drift across the sand - an unmissable daily ritual paired with an ice-cold Red Stripe beer. Simple, authentic, and absolutely delicious.

Exploring beyond the hotel

As much as we loved the resort, we also wanted to get out and explore...

Rick’s Café & Catamaran Adventure

This was one for the memory books. It was a long coach ride to Negril, but the journey was broken up by a catamaran trip, complete with snorkelling stops and a magical surprise - dolphins swimming alongside us in the wild.

Rick’s Café itself was legendary. Known for its cliff diving, the experience ranged from small jumps to daredevil heights - a thrill for those who fancied it, while the rest of us enjoyed the show from the sidelines. Sunset at Rick’s is something everyone should experience at least once - truly unforgettable.

Dunn’s River Falls

Climbing Dunn’s River Falls was another trip highlight. A natural waterfall, where you climb in a chain, navigating the rocks and streams to reach the top. Some of us made it all the way, others peeled off at different points, but that’s what made it great - there was no pressure, just fun.

Reflections

Jamaica holds a special place in our hearts, and this trip just confirmed it.

RIU Reggae was the perfect choice - an unbeatable mix of fun, relaxation and Caribbean charm, with the most welcoming, attentive staff and an entertainment team that made every night special.

Would we return to Jamaica? In a heartbeat. Would we recommend this experience? Without a doubt.

For anyone looking for an island escape that offers stunning beaches, unbeatable food and lively culture - Jamaica delivers.

Until next time, island life…
