Anita's Blog: A wonderful 30th wedding anniversary spent in Mauritius

After a difficult year, my husband Ian and I knew we needed time to pause and reconnect. With our 30th wedding anniversary approaching, there was only one place that felt right - Mauritius. I call it my happy place, and this trip reminded me exactly why.
We flew directly with Air Mauritius from Gatwick. A lengthy delay on the outbound flight wasn’t ideal, though a £20 food allowance softened the blow - communication could definitely have been better. Thankfully, the return was smooth and on time.
We spent 14 nights at the wonderful Victoria for 2 - the adults-only wing of Beachcomber Victoria Resort & Spa.

From the moment we arrived, I felt like I was home. Tucked away on the west coast, it’s the kind of serene, stylish hideaway that makes everything else melt away. Perfect for couples, honeymoons or celebrations, with those breathtaking Indian Ocean sunsets stealing the show night after night.
Our swim-up room was a dream - just 17 of them in total - so peaceful and private, with direct access to the pool and the Nautil Bar, which opens from 10am to 11pm for drinks and snacks.
We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at Morris Beef, the à la carte restaurant exclusive to Victoria for 2, and the food was beautifully presented and delicious throughout.
Of course, guests have full use of the main hotel too - its bars, restaurants, spa, water sports and land-based activities. The Beachcomber team really do think of everything. The main hotel is also great for families, with spacious sea-facing rooms - I took a look at the newly renovated ones and they’ve done a brilliant job with the décor. During our stay we saw a wedding most days, all with beautiful beachside - such a lovely place for a special celebration.
The team went above and beyond to help mark our anniversary, organising a private sunset cruise and the most romantic dinner on the beach, giving us the opportunity to raise a glass, and soak in the moment together. It meant the world.
We also booked a private day tour with Mautourco, heading north to Port Louis, Grand Baie, Cap Malheureux and the famous Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens with its giant water lilies. Our guide, Nawshad, was so knowledgeable and engaging - it really added to the experience. Grand Baie’s a great spot if you fancy a wander or picking up a few souvenirs.
Even though it was technically winter, the weather was glorious - warm days, balmy evenings, and just the odd tropical sprinkle.

There were so many highlights - sunset drinks, seafood dinner at my island favourite L’Horizon, and the simple luxury of having time and space to be together.
Mauritius has my heart. I’ve been twice on holiday and twice on educationals, but this trip reminded me why it’s always been so special. I already can’t wait to go back.
