For several years now I have been craving a holiday abroad.
I just wanted a bit of sun, sand and cocktails and the craving intensified over the last few months. I am neurodiverse and was already dreading the airport and flight. My husband and I began looking at deals online and in all honestly we got so overwhelmed with the choice, reviews etc and had no idea where to start! In my lunch break, I popped into town to run some errands and “accidentally fell" (🤣) into the travel agents.
My main aim was to just grab some brochures but instead I was greeted by Sheri who was amazingly helpful, sat me down, helped me narrow down my choices to a few hotels and then sent me on my way to make a decision in my own time, and I have to say I was blown away.
When we were talking about rooms etc, I explained that I have ADHD and suspected autism and was already very apprehensive about navigating hotels etc. Immediately, she put me at ease, told me that her son is autistic so she “gets it”. She gave me a sunflower lanyard to wear in the airport and will be speaking with the accessibility team to arrange fast track passes, transport arrangements and exploring other ways to ensure my holiday is “as stress free as possible” for me.
Yes, I did cry in store today, but it was mainly because I was so overwhelmed at how supported I felt. Thank you so much 🥰
